Too bad Richard Deacon is no loner with us. He would be my choice to star in the Al Gore story.

This is a classic- my parents and I HAVE to watch this every single year, because it just isn’t Christmas without it.
@chefmickeyw That’s …
@chefmickeyw That’s true, Benny’s was best friend with George Burns and he could crack up Benny every time too.
If you watch Benny/Blanc classic routine that tvrewind posted then watch Blanc and Benny on Johnny Carson that McGarVision posted you’ll notice that Benny starts cracking up at Blanc at the same time during the mexican train station routine.
I love the blatant …
I love the blatant advertising. lol
if you watch Jack …
if you watch Jack closely he never looks at Mel straight in the face. so I heard somewhere (i forget where exactly), they were doing a live show together and Mel made Jack crack up just by looking at him. from that day on Jack could never look at Mel without stopping mid-sentence and laughing uncontrollably.

One of my favourite …
One of my favourite TV episodes ever, and I think it’s one of Mel Blanc’s greatest and certainly most memorable performances.
It’s interesting how Frank Nelson and Jack work with Frank in the dominant position, and Jack and Mel with Jack dominant, yet Jack remains the straight man and Frank and Mel get the laughs.
The lingerie salesman is Charlie Cantor who was a regular on radio and TV comedy and played Finnegan on Duffy’s Tavern. He died Sept. 11, 1966
I forgot to mention …
I forgot to mention that my favorite thing was when perfect strangers would give him crap for absolutely no reason.
Jack Benny did the …
Jack Benny did the best Christmas shows ever, especially on the radio. In fact, this script is an old radio script. The only themes that came close was when the cast would take a train trip. Absolute genius.

I absolutely adore Jack Benny! This is one of my favorite episodes.

Now that is comedy!
Originally telecast …
Originally telecast on December 18, 1960 [for State Farm Insurance], and a distillation of many of Jack’s “Christmas Shopping” radio episodes (this one uses the “1948 finish”, where Mel…well, you KNOW which one!). Benny wanted at least one version on film.
these 22 some odd …
these 22 some odd minutes are oscar material for sitcom. they don’t give oscars for t.v., so an emmy then. every character was perfectly suited. besides mel blanc, my next to favorite was the guy selling lingerie talking about ”the loops”.
jack’s secret was that he was always the straight man. everyone else was crazy except him.
and that look of bewilderment when he would look at the audience over his shoulder. priceless.

To bad Phil Harris …
To bad Phil Harris was not in the show. To bad Phil was not in the TV version of Jack Benny.
