last year I made peanut brittle..that was a hit too.

I need an idea for this year?? nothing stereotypical, like no sports, teams, hobbies etc. thats why its hard to think of stuff.

Your Questions About Christmas Cards Recycle

Maria asks…

Address of person or charity that recycles Christmas cards?

I have 15 years worth of old Christmas cards. I know there are charities out there who recycle these cards. Do you have an address for someone who can use these cards?

admin answers:

Call one of the nursing homes in your area, they may be able to use them as part of their arts and crafy program for next year.

Mandy asks…

What is the best way to recycle old Christmas cards?

admin answers:

You can cut the picture from the front ( if it is not written on ) and make Christmas postcards for next year.

Also you can cut portions of card and remake new ones out of cardstock just gluing the parts on and adding other decorations...sort of like scrapbooking~~

make an ornament by gluing the picture to either felt or fun foam shapes and add string and you have an ornament! You can also use a juice can lid covered with felt and add the picture to that.

You can also make a matching game if you have cards that are alike...or have 2 that go together like matching cats...snowmen trees , etc great fun for kids

http://www.kinderart.com/recycle/cardbox.shtml cute gift boxes to make from old cards...great for small gifts jewelry etc....

You can make a garland out of cards cut in shapes like trees hearts etc ...join with yarn etc...for tree or whereever you want a garland

make gift tags for next year paste on new cardstock.

Cut design and paste on a plain giftbag...especially brown paper ones...make great gift bags...

Cut out and even laminate to make sturdier...then punch holes around edge and you have great lacing cards for wee ones...

You could just take a hole puncher and punch them all up and make your own confetti for Christmas or even the new year~!

Make simple napkin rings for the Christmas table by cutting colorful strips from your Christmas cards and stapling them to form a loop.

Or make loops fromthem and make garland for trees like we did as kids with construction paper...

Make an advent calendar of sorts...cut them in shapes and make a felt tree and each day add an ornament to the tree to count days to Christmas. Or a reverse type you put all 25 ornaments on a tiny felt tree hanging...then each day one ornement is removed and placed on the real Christmas tree...

Your Questions About Food For Christmas

Thomas asks…

Which is better for Christmas food items - Hickory Farms or Swiss Colony?

I am wanting to purchase some various Christmas foods - sausage and cheese gift sets, petit fours, and butter toffee. Which company is the best out there?

I've heard Swiss Colony, Hickory Farms and Williams-Sonoma are all good, but I would really like to hear from someone who has had some experience with more than one food item catalog company. Thanks!

admin answers:

With Williams-Sonoma you pay for the name as much as the product itself.

Hickory Farms and Swiss Colony are okay but consider that you can get the same thing, packaged different in your local grocery store and a much more reasonable price when it comes to the sausage and cheese balls.

I went on ask.com and typed in recipes for petit fours and there were many to choose from. Make your own and save a bundle that you could more than likely use someplace else.

Paul asks…

What are the things Not to forget on your Christmas food shopping list?

I am terrified of forgetting something when I go Christmas food shopping this week. I just want to know the essentials. I keep thinking its going to be the night before Christmas Dinner or the day of Christmas dinner and I've forgotten the milk or cinnamon. What is essential for not forgetting if you’re making a traditional Christmas dinner, like turkey, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, ect.

admin answers:

Depends on what you're making but here's mine:
Turkey
Potatoes
Milk
Cinnamon
Pumpkin Pie Filling
Pie Crust Makings
Green Beans
Bread
Celery
Onions
Apple Sauce
Cranberry Sauce
Carrots
Gravy Thickener
Apple Juice
Garlic
Butter
Paprika
Rosemary
Eggs
Bacon

Make a list of things that keep for a week, and a list of things that you should get a day before. Buy the stuff that keeps for a while a week before. That way you can get the stuff you forgot when you make the second shopping trip.

What are ways one can save money when shopping for Christmas Gifts?

Late November and the month of December is a busy time for retailers nationwide in the United States as Americans purchase Christmas gifts from both family and friends. Although this is the time of giving back to others, as a result, many Americans spend more than they can afford, charge too much on their credit cards, and go into debt with their charges.

What are some suggestions you would give to a friend in order to save money during the Christmas Season?

admin answers:

Use only cash - you'll spend a whole lot less and you'll be guaranteed not to go into debt.

Jenny asks…

christmas gifts?

what should i give to my friends as christmas presents.

i dont want to spend that much money on it.
i was thinking like fuzzy socks in a christmas pouch thing.

i want all the gifts to be the same and be really cute.

any ideas? =]

oh, and we are all 13 and 14.

admin answers:

You are a smart youngin'. I'm not even begginning to think about Christmas yet. But I should be. I think the fuzzy sock idea sounds fun.. Sounds cheap yet something they can use. Also, maybe throw in some fun stuff like little games, homemade cd's, and other homemade gifts. Homemade gifts are from the heart, and even cheaper.. So anyways but you got plenty of time to think on it.. Good luck just get them something you know they will love.

Where can I find artistic and unusual Christmas Cards online?

I'm looking for Christmas Cards that aren't your typical 'bloated santa', '2 demential tree', or 'overly sappy image of children'. Something with originality and character.

Try etsy.com. It is a sight where artisans sell their handcrafted items. You may find some really cool Christmas cards there. This is one of my favorite websites.

Betty asks…

To all Latinos!! Traditional Christmas food?

I have a project in my Spanish 3 class and I have to research some Traditional Latino Christmas food, could you please tell me some of the things you eat for the holidays and, if you know thier origins, how they came to be tradition?

admin answers:

Salvadoreños eat tamales (not like the Mexican tamales they are MUCH BETTER, they are like Honduran tamales wrapped in banana leaves). They have soup (sometimes menudo), they also have traditional things that we eat like turkey, chicken, or ham. They also eat Christmas dinner on the 24th and go to mass or open presents at midnight.

Help Editing paper?? Please?

“Las Navidades”

The festival of Christmas is largely anticipated by the Hispanic community. The traditional Spanish Christmas today, follows back to ancient beliefs and customs. Christmas is a time of celebrating the birth of Jesus and renewing family ties. In preparation, families clean their houses and buy gifts for friends and family members. Traditional food is served during the weeks celebration. Tamales, ajiacos and asados are just some of the more popular foods served.
One major custom that’s followed largely is las posadas, which is the recreating of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem in search of shelter. This celebration is a nine night series of enacting Mary and Joseph’s journey. Starting on December 16 and ending on December 24.
The first eight nights of Mary and Joseph’s journey they are denied housing and are left in the frigid cold. The last night they are accepted into a caring home where baby Jesus is born. Jesus’ birth signifies Christmas day on the 25th of December. Schools and churches participate in this tradition world wide.
In reenacting this journey, typically each family in the neighborhood will schedule a night for the Posada to take place. Every home in the neighborhood has an important scene. The house hosting the Posada will act as the innkeepers of Mary and Josephs journey. Children and adults travel house too house requesting shelter, each house will deny their request until they reach the last house where they will be invited in and all guests kneel and pray at the Rosary. Bullfights, Piñata breaking ceremonies, parades and rodeos enhance the celebration.
Christmas itself is usually celebrated on Christmas Eve with a midnight mass and late dinner. Modern influences incorporated Santa Clause and the Christmas tree along with the traditional crèche. The Celebration ends on January 6th representing when the Three Wise Men presented the Christ Child with incense, gold and myrrh.
